The Terraces originally opened in 1963 as Orangewood Retirement Community. In 2000, only 50 percent of the community’s resident rooms were occupied. To remain competitive in the current market, American Baptist Homes of the West, realized they needed to update the campus.

The first phase of this multi-phase redevelopment required that nearly two-thirds of the community’s structures be demolished to make way for 124 independent living units, 74 assisted living units consisting of 49 personal care and 25 directed care units, and a 64-bed skilled nursing facility. Subsequent phases consisted of 12 additional independent living garden suites and a 38-unit independent living building. Later phases will eventually replace all the community’s original structures.

The campus’ new living areas feature spacious 1- and 2-bedroom apartment homes that incorporate large floor plans with abundant storage space, patios, washers and dryers, well-appointed kitchens and overall adaptable design that allows for reconfiguration as residents’ mobility needs change.
